Jesus was the King of the Jews. He reigns now from heaven where He is seated with the Father. Unlike temporal monarchs, He is a perfect king and His reign is perfect.

When I’m out sharing my faith on the street I find that some of the people that are open to talking (at least initially) when I first put my invitation forward, are people who go to churches that have lots of worship meetings. They are people that are generally going to multiple church meetings every week and feel confident to talk about God and the Bible. Conversely,  there are alot of people who are maybe atheist or agnostic or lapsed from their religion who don’t really know an awful lot and they can tend not to want to talk to me.

However, I generally find that roughly the same percentage of these two groups of people are truly open minded, in the sense that, once they know that I’m teaching something specific, they’re generally not interested in looking into anything that they know will in some way contradict what they already believe. There is a particular teaching amongst religious people I meet which I believe lends itself to them being very self satisfied and unopen to new ideas. This group of teachings is known by many people as premillennialism. It may seem strange to people who are not religious but there is a significant number of people in a number of denominations who believe that at some point in the future Jesus is going to come back to the world and set up a kingdom on the Earth which will last for exactly 1000 years. I know that sounds strange. I personally do not believe this. I believe this is a twisting and interpreting of various passages in the Bible and I also believe that it can be quite easily shown that the Bible does NOT teach this. One key text is in the revelation to the Apostle John.  The question comes, ‘is Rev 20:1-6 a literal 1000 year reign?’  I will show it is not.

.. Some people say…

I am going to promote this article not only to the people who I know who believe in this teaching but also to others so that they can easily understand that this idea is inaccurate and also quite assuming and self satisfying. The belief of premillennialism and the Thousand Year Reign is accompanied by another belief in an event that many know as The Rapture. “Rapture” is derived from Middle French rapture, via the Medieval Latin raptura (“seizure, kidnapping”), which derives from the Latin raptus (“a carrying off”). It is believed that when Jesus comes back to begin the 1000 year reign that all the good people believing in premillennialism will disappear and go to heaven. This is a very comforting thought because someone who believes that Jesus is going to come back like this and reign on the earth for a thousand years during a 1000 years of great tribulation and political unrest and persecution will actually not remain on earth for all the trouble. Anyone who is good and following the bible will go straight to heaven at the “rapture” whereas everyone who’s left will have to suffer. It even seems a little bit odd to me thinking about this now at this moment, that Jesus’ coming back is associated with a thousand years where there’s lots of problems.  Jesus coming back should really be associated with an amazing ministry and anyone who’s a faithful disciple..  I would have thought.. would have had a great place in His Kingdom on earth as he would have been able to use them to help lots of other people. However when you look at the general lifestyle of most of the people that I know personally who are premillennialists I do not find them to be very evangelistic. In other words I find that they are not trying to convert people very aggressively. They don’t spend much of their time evangelising. Now if I believed that this ‘rapture’ is going to happen soon (and many premillennialists believe that it is going to happen soon, within our lifetime), I would want to go out and figure out how to convert as many people as possible so that they can all be raptured and go straight to heaven. If many, many people became Christians under these conditions it would mean that they would not have to live out their natural lives and deal with all the temptations and problems that exist in this life. It would mean that they only have to stay here for a limited amount of time after which, when Jesus comes back they’ll just go straight to heaven. If that’s true then this generation has a unique chance to escape all the perils of this life that can cause people to lose faith in God because they only have to hang on until this rapture comes! I’ve not been sold this easy option. I will show you now,  with a simple bible study that the Thousand-Year reign of Jesus is not something that’s going to happen at some point in the future after some magical rapture where everyone disappears up to heaven who has been a good Christian. I might also add here that I have shown in several other articles already written regarding the Holy Spirit that most of the people who believe in this rapture do not actually have the Holy Spirit because they believe in a feelings-based-presense reception of the Holy Spirit.

Premillennialism debunked – Study 1 – Jesus’ Reign

Is Rev 20:1-6 a literal 1000 year reign?

PROPHESY SAYS CHRIST WOULD SIT ON HIS THRONE AND BUILD HIS TEMPLE WHICH YOU CAN EASILY SEE FROM SCRIPTURE IS THE CHURCH.

Zechariah 6:12 Tell him this is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘Here is the man whose name is the Branch, and he will branch out from his place and build the temple of the LORD. 13 It is he who will build the temple of the LORD, and he will be clothed with majesty and will sit and rule on his throne. And he will be a priest on his throne. And there will be harmony between the two.’

JESUS BEGIN THIS PERFECT REIGN WHEN HE BEGAN TO BUILD HIS TEMPLE, THE CHURCH?

Matthew 16:18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.

JESUS BUILT HIS CHURCH

1 Corinthians 3:11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

THE CHURCH IS BUILT ON JESUS

1 Corinthians 3:16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?

WE ARE HIS TEMPLE

2 Corinthians 6:16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people”

Ephesians 2:19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.

PROPHESY SHOWS CHRIST WOULD SIT ON HIS THRONE AND BUILD HIS TEMPLE

Zechariah 6:13

13 It is he who will build the temple of the LORD, and he will be clothed with majesty and will sit and rule on his throne. And he will be a priest on his throne. And there will be harmony between the two.’

JESUS SAT ON A ROYAL THRONE AT GOD’S SIDE AT HIS ASCENSION

Acts 2:30-32-35 30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. 31 Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay.

32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact. 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said,

“‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand 35 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”’

HE SAT AS A PRIEST ON HIS THRONE

Zechariah 6:13

13 It is he who will build the temple of the LORD, and he will be clothed with majesty and will sit and rule on his throne. And he will be a priest on his throne. And there will be harmony between the two.’

HE IS A PRIEST NOW

Hebrews 4:14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.

HE WAS TO SIT

Zechariah 6:13 It is he who will build the temple of the LORD, and he will be clothed with majesty and will sit and rule on his throne. And he will be a priest on his throne. And there will be harmony between the two.’

HE SAT V34

Acts 2:32-35 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact.

HE SITS IN HEAVEN

Hebrews 4:14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.

NOT ON THE EARTH

Hebrews 8:4

4 If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already men who offer the gifts prescribed by the law.

HE RULES UNTIL HIS ENEMIES ARE CONQUERED. HE DOES NOT LEAVE HIS THRONE UNTIL AFTER HIS ENEMIES ARE DEFEATED. PRE-MILLENNIALISTS SAY HE WILL COME TO EARTH FOR 1000 YEARS BEFORE HIS ENEMIES ARE DEFEATED.

Psalm 110:1,4

Of David. A psalm.

1 The LORD says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”

4 The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”

NEW TESTAMENT CONFIRMS.

1 Corinthians 15:25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

JESUS CLAIMED THE KINGDOM WAS NEAR

Daniel 2:44 “In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever.

Mark 1:15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!”

THE DISCIPLES RECEIVED IT

Hebrews 12:28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,

WITH POWER

Mark 9:1 And he said to them, “I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power.”

Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

ON PENTACOST

Acts 2:1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues [a] as the Spirit enabled them.

THE KINGDOM BECAME A PRESENT REALITY FOR THE DISCIPLES

Colossians 1:13

13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,

Colossians 4:11 Jesus, who is called Justus, also sends greetings. These are the only Jews among my fellow workers for the kingdom of God, and they have proved a comfort to me.

Revelation 1:6 and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever

THE KINGDOM IS THE CHURCH

Matthew 16:18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be [d] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven

ANY FUTURE VIEW OF THE KINGDOM IS ITS ETERNAL HEAVENLY STATE IS DELIVERED TO THE FATHER BY JESUS

1 Corinthians 15:24 Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion,

We are already in the perfect 1000 year reign of Jesus. He reigns in His Kingdom,  the church. The Church study and The Kingdom study in The First Principals study series outline this in detail. The number 1000 in Revelation is therfore symbolic of 10 to the power of 3.

10 x 10 x 10 = 1000

This is symbolizing perfection (3) of leadership (10).

Jesus is a perfect leader. A perfect King.

It is useless to spend time trying to calculate when the rapture will come because it will never come in the premilennial sense. Our time is short. It has always been short. We will all die ‘soon’. Within 100 years from today every person reading this will be dead. Time is short.

Please come study the bible with me. The End.
